Float or sink?

This week in Reception our construction area challenge was to make boats. We had lots of resources to choose from including plastic tubs, cardboard boxes, stickle bricks and Lego. At the end of the week we learnt about what floating and sinking means then took our boats outside to the water tray to test them. We made a prediction for each boat before putting it into the water to find out if we were right. We found the plastic boats were more likely to float whilst the cardboard boats got too wet and sank. We also noticed the sail had to be very strong otherwise it would make the boat topple over. We talked about wind power and how it helped the boats to sail. We had lots of fun!
